Watermelon season runs from about May - September, but the exact timeframe to get the best watermelon depends on where you live. Keep an eye out for local fruit stands and farmers markets! You can also freeze watermelon so that you can enjoy its deliciousness and this easy watermelon smoothie throughout the year.
Expert Tips & Tricks
- Feel free to use regular milk if you are not dairy free.
- Add more frozen strawberries if your smoothie is too thin for your preference.
- Add a banana if you want a thicker texture, though this does make the smoothie lose its watermelon taste a bit.
- If you want a sweeter smoothie, you can add 1 tablespoon of honey or maple syrup.
- Mint or basil are great additions!
Recipe Variations
This easy watermelon smoothie can be altered in many different ways by simply swapping out fruit and yogurt flavors.
- If you don’t like watermelon, you can use cantaloupe, honeydew, or even pineapple.
- Choosing a different main ingredient will change the flavor of your smoothie but will still offer great health benefits and a yummy summer treat. Watermelon truly pairs well with any fruit so if you aren’t feeling the strawberries, you can easily swap those out for any other frozen fruit.
- Note! The more frozen fruit you add the thicker your smoothie will be.
- If you’re craving a more tropical tasting smoothie you can use your favorite coconut flavored yogurt instead of the vanilla yogurt.
- Coconut milk or coconut water are also great additions to this easy watermelon smoothie.
For nutrition boosters, some of my favorites to add are flax seeds, chia seeds, protein powders, collagen, coconut/MCT oil, a sprinkle of cinnamon, and/or a handful of spinach.
