These honey garlic shrimp tacos with mango salsa are quite literally finger-garlicking good. Like, the sauce is so delicious I considered drinking the leftovers straight from the bowl.
After binge-watching the second season of Chef's Table on Netflix, I was determined to make a dish that contained the 4S: sweet, salty, sour, spicy. This is a process described by Gaggan Anand, for food with perfect depth and flavor. It's the perfect ratio of sugars, salt, acids and spices. Let's review these honey garlic shrimp tacos on that scale.
Sweet: honey, mango, red peppers.
Salty: shrimp, garlic, salt, butter.
Sour: lemon, lime, cilantro.
Spicy: garlic, black pepper.
Yup. Pretty sure I nailed it with this recipe. But if shrimp isn't your thing, you'll be equally pleased with these carnitas.
Honey Garlic Shrimp Tacos with Mango Salsa - Ole!
Make sure you serve your honey garlic shrimp tacos on warm, slightly crisp flour tortillas. Your first bite into the tender, juicy shrimp with the crunch of the fresh mango salsa will be a euphoric moment. Grab the recipe below and enjoy!
Honey Garlic Shrimp Tacos with Mango Salsa
- ¼ cup salted butter
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 16 raw large shrimp
- Juice of half a lemon
- ¼ cup honey
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 red pepper diced
- 1 mango diced
- ¼ cup red onion diced
- 2 tablespoons cilantro chopped
- 2 tablespoons lime juice
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 small flour tortillas
- In a large skillet, heat butter and garlic over medium heat until garlic is slightly brown and aromatic. Add in the shrimp and squeeze the juice of half a lemon on top. Pour in the honey and stir everything together, cooking over medium heat until shrimp turn pink. (Remove them from the heat once they form into a "c" shape—you don't want overcooked, rubbery shrimp!) Sprinkle some pepper on top and set aside, allowing the shrimp to marinate in the honey garlic sauce.
- Combine the red pepper, mango, red onion, cilantro, lime juice, and salt in a small bowl and mix together.
- Heat your tortillas, then dish about ¼ of the fresh mango salsa into each tortilla and top with the shrimp and about 2 tablespoons of honey garlic sauce. Serve warm and enjoy!
