Simple Compote Recipe

This fruit compote recipe is made from a triple berry medley, honey, and lemon juice. It’s fresh, easy, and the perfect topping to any of your favorite sweet or savory snacks. Compote is a type of fruit spread similar to jam or jelly but has a thicker texture. The best part about compote is that you can use any of your favorite fruit; fresh or frozen.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb frozen berries (I used a Triple Berry Medley)
  • 2 tablespoon honey
  • ½ tablespoon lemon juice (use fresh lemon juice if possible)

Instructions

  • In a medium pot, add the frozen berries, honey, and lemon juice. Stir until combined. Heat over medium-high heat for about 10 minutes, or until the berries begin to release juice and the liquid begins to boil.
  • Allow the liquid to boil for about 5 minutes, until the compote thickens slightly.
  • Remove from heat and serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy!

Notes

  • You can use fresh fruit if you’d prefer. Fresh berries and stone fruits are good options. You may only have to heat the fruit for 5 minutes before it releases juice.
  • You can replace the honey with maple syrup or granulated sugar for a vegan option.
  • Use fresh lemon juice if possible.
  • If you like a sweeter compote, you can always add more sugar after the compote has finished cooking
