Ingredients

For the donuts:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • cup buttermilk or regular milk if you don't have buttermilk on hand
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the glaze:

  • ¼ cup butter melted
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon milk
  • Caramel sauce
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Mix together all the dry ingredients in a stand mixer. Add in the wet ingredients and stir for about 30 seconds until all of the batter is mixed. Be careful not to overmix, so they maintain a chewy, doughy texture. Take a sandwich bag and scoop in the batter to make a piping bag. Cut about ½ inch off the bottom corner to make the piping tip opening. Pipe the batter into a greased donut pan, filling each mold about ¾ full. Do not add more or they will puff up and lose the hole in middle. Bake for 9-10 minutes, or until barely golden on the edges.
  • While the donuts are baking, make the glaze. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the butter, powdered sugar, maple syrup and milk. It should be a thick consistency.
  • Remove the donuts from the oven, and allow them to cool for about 5-10 minutes. Once cooled, but still slightly warm, dip or spoon the maple glaze onto the tops of the donuts. Feel free to add a second layer of glaze so the donut has a thick, flaky frosting. Drizzle caramel sauce over the glaze and add your favorite sprinkles. Serve immediately. Enjoy!

Notes

Baking times may need to be longer if you are in a high altitude.
